MUSEUM OF ARCHITECTURE AND DESIGN LJUBLJANA

The Museum of Architecture and Design Ljubljana is the main Slovenian museum for architecture, which makes it a must if you are interested in the building art of the Central European region or you would simply like to broaden your horizons. Are you curious why you find Ljubljana as attractive, cultured and likeable as you do?

Museum of Architecture and Design

The Museum of Architecture and Design is placed in an old 17th-century castle, located in the neighborhood of Fuzine.

Beside periodical exhibitions of old and modern Slovene architecture, the museum also presents other domestic and foreign architects and designers and hosts numerous foreign exhibitions.

It owns a library, which is housed at the Fuzine Castle too. Publications of domestic and foreign origin focus on the subjects of the museum’s research and its departments mentioned above. It is open to the public and library material is available for rent but with further notice only.

The museum runs guided tours of the museum collections and architecture tours of Ljubljana.

The Biennial of Industrial Design takes place at the museum every even year with Slovene and foreign participants.

Collections

The museum assembles, stores and displays material from the field of architecture.

It also runs departments and expositions of industrial design, photography, town planning and visual communications.

The Museum also runs and administers museum collection of Joze Plecnik. It is stored and exhibited in the House of Plecnik which is open for public.

Activities

The museum runs guided tours and workshops for children, adults, and groups.

Their educational program is for those who want to find out more about architecture, design, and photography in a fun and informative way.

The Biennal of Industrial Design takes place at the museum every even year.

Getting there

The museum is situated in the suburbs of the city within the beautiful environment of a Renaissance castle in the Fuzine quarter.

As it is a bit too far to walk from the city centre, a fifteen-minute bike ride is a very practical and healthy solution and thus recommended.

If you are without a bike, city buses number 20 and 22 bring you there. For higher comfort take a taxi.
