About BTC City

Set as warehouse space to Ljubljana’s retail and industry in 1954, BTC has changed its image and function throughout the past 60 years.

After being the biggest customs warehouse in former Yugoslavia and the largest land terminal for goods in Europe, BTC started getting a completely new, commercial and more attractive image in the 90s.

Soon the company’s shares were listed on the Ljubljana Stock Exchange and later on the London, Frankfurt and Munich Stock Exchanges as well and the company’s dream was becoming a reality. The former rural area was transforming into a shopping city.

With constant improvements, stable business growth, a continual increase in the number of visitors and a clear vision for the future, BTC City has clearly become a place of success and possibility. It has over 18 million visitors every year.

Points of Interest

Getting There

BTC City is located just next to the northern Ljubljana bypass and is  3,5 kilometres away from the city centre. Regular bus connections serve BTC from Ljubljana city centre. You can also get to the BTC City by car or by bike. How? Please see below. For a more comfortable option, you can also take a taxi.

By Car

If you are going on your own from the city centre, stick to the wide Smartinska road. Travel straight ahead and turn right by the (red coloured) petrol station, just before the road comes to an end. Finding yourself at the city bypass means you have gotten just a bit too far.

If you are coming down the bypass from any side, try not to miss the “BTC” or “Nove Jarse” turn:

From the direction of Austria, take the motorway in the direction of Maribor and take the exit –  BTC City: Nove Jarse.

From the direction of Italy / Trieste take the motorway to the exit of Nove Jarse

From the direction of Croatia / Zagreb take the motorway in direction Ljubljana-East, then exit BTC / Industrial zone Moste.

By Bus

Departing from the city centre (you can use the bus stop at the end of Copova street – by the Post Office and opposite the Nama shopping center, it is best to take bus number 27. Buses no. 2, 7, 12 and 24 will do the job as well.

Bus line no. 27 is runs directly through BTC City (stops: administrative building BTC, Hall A, Trznica, Kolosej, Emporium).

Bus lines no. 2, 7 and 12 stop by the petrol station at Smartinska road, less than 100 meters from where you want to be. From there it sure is difficult to miss.

Bus line no. 24 brings visitors to the Atlantis Waterpark and passes Emporium shopping mall.

Taking a bus on a work day is a smart choice, since they run very often (every 5 to 15 minutes), so there is no need for checking timetables. Just take care not to miss the last one back to the city centre, if you are staying in BTC until the late night.
